If I ever get a tattoo, I’m nearly certain it’ll be hip-hop related. Of all the subjects I’ve snapped, there’s nothing like capturing the moments at a hip-hop dance battle, a rap concert, or posing people with graffiti. (Admittedly, it’s harder to get great photos of DJ’s but I try)
I have two sections on my website dedicated to hip-hop photos. The first is a major gallery of all 4 elements. The second is a project I’ve named #GrafNModels. For the latter, I either coordinate with a model in advance or just stop strangers. As you can see, I’ve done it all over the world.
To me, hip-hop culture is special. I almost always find BBoys dancing on the street when I travel. Often, we have friends in common since I’ve been snapping the scene globally for over a decade. Usually, i go out for a walk and listen for music. In this case, I heard music and to my surprise it was a live MC cypher battle. These dudes were awesome. Admittedly, I didn’t understand it all, but like “love”, hip-hop is its own language. If you just wanna see some favorites from dance battles, here you go.
Here are some photos of the MCs and I included a few videos towards the end so you could see them spit. Hip-hop is alive and well in La Paz.

When the cypher was over (after at least an hour), I got a pic with the MCs that were still there.
