I have to admit, when I was growing up, I hadn’t heard much about Bolivia. Worse, what I did hear wasn’t always very flattering. In fact, the opening line on my favorite song on Wu-Tang’s debut album, GZA refers to Bolivia’s past in the drug trade. For several reasons, including a steep Visa fee, I’m guessing Bolivia is not on a lot of people’s list of places to visit.
Let me say it plainly: You should go here. The people were friendly. The city of La Paz was active and fun for a day or two. More importantly, there is a lot to see – especially in Uyuni (which is a short flight from La Paz). It is on the front-end of its tourism journey (like Senegal felt), but still easy enough with a good guide (which we had in La Paz and Uyuni). We had a great time and enjoyed every day we were there.
I’ve said it already: I’m not a great landscape photographer, but I had to try because there was so much to see here. I’m really glad I spent a week in Bolivia. In fact, I want to go back and visit Santa Cruz, which Ima told me (in the podcast) is very different than La Paz.
