In order to understand a new country as well as possible, we usually take advantage of cultural opportunities when we can. Walking around is cool. Visiting museums is fine, but gets tiresome. Live performances give you a different feel for the energy being created because you are also among local spectators. All three types of artists represented in this gallery made the trip special to us.
While visiting ruins at Ollanta, we saw a religious festival getting ready. WE stuck around and i snapped the procession through the town. We also had a stop to see some local women at Centro Cultural Parwa shear llama and alpaca fur to spin it into thread. We also saw how the clean and dye it. Then we got some hands on experience seeing how they weave their fabrics. It was crazy impressive.
Lasly, we had the equivalent of a “City Pass”. Never one to waste money, I had us trying to do it all. We did all of the walkable stuff, ending with a performance at Centro Qosqo de Arte Nativo. It was a demonstration of several local dances from the indigenous communities throughout Peru. The stories that accompanied the dances were great. Standing outside in line for 75 mins was NOT great! At least we were near the front of a long line and got great seats. It was dope to see how much of the community came out to see this. It was nearly sold out!
Enjoy!
