Peru. When I spoke with Santi, “the food” was one of the things he mentioned. Food came up in nearly all of the 10 interviews I’ve done so far. There’s just something about “home cooking” that you just can’t get when you’re away. In fact, even in my other South America conversations, people reluctantly said “the the food in Peru was the best”.
In our case, my classmate Lucho booked our first meal in Lima at Rafael. What a start! If I had any doubts that Peru’s culinary scene was the real deal, we settled that on Day 1. I even ate a few things that I normally wouldn’t.
The plating was just immaculate at Rafael, which we expected based on the reviews. In fact, I decided “on the spot” to capture all of the food we ate in Peru on my iPhone. I don’t claim to be a food blogger or someone that tried to be immaculate with these photos. However, even when the food didn’t taste great, it looked amazing. The result of that decision is in the gallery.
I am probably too picky for zealots to consider me a “foodie”, but we enjoy trying new spots and tasting the menu. Back home in CHI, we usually order apps and 3-4 entrees for the two of us.. We didn’t do that here though – mostly bc we can wrap the leftovers and eat them later and we don’t like wasting food.
Note #1: I didn’t caption the photos, but the keywords contain the name of the restaurants where I took the photos.
Note #2: As I write this, I’m in Chile. After a day here, I think there’s another food gallery coming!
The spots in the gallery cover almost all of the places we ate, including:
