Chile – Food

I had no intention of doing another food gallery on this trip.  Like I said, we’re not real foodies.  However, we watched Netflix’s “Somebody Feed Phil” episode on Santiago and arrived with a list of places to try.  The two lodges we stayed at took their food really seriously too.  As a result, I diligently snapped iPhone photos of every plate.

The food in Santiago was especially notable.  Hotel Cumbres and Explora Torres del Paines both served great looking food, but it wasn’t always as tasty as it looked.  On the plus side, you can’t eat the photos, so you can enjoy how it looked.

Santiago, on the other hand, served food that looked great and tasted great.  The bonus was that we had an “inside” track on the best spots.  The guest on the Chile podcast, Caro, sent over a list of places to go before we arrived.  Frankly, we just worked through her list and added some from the show.  Amazing.

Ironically, the tastiest meal we had in Chile was at a Peruvian restaurant.  However, it was recommended by my Chilean friend, so it’s allowed.

My favorite?  A giant pork + beef “burger” at Agua Fuente that was bigger than my fist..  It had a huge portion of avocado and sauerkraut on top.  It was one of the tastiest sandwiches I’ve ever had.  I was so full, i skipped dinner and still woke up full.  They had 4 stations on a griddle in the middle so you could watch all the food prep.  The size of the sandwiches was unreal – and the cup of mayo on top was absurd (I skipped the Mayo).  The other gallery from Santiago has some folks of the awesome staff cooking (and posing for me).

They had no fries.  They had no frills.  They had NOTHING for my pescatarian partner.  However, I’m going back if I’m ever in Santiago again.

The food in Chile?  Yeah.  Special.

Agua Fuentes gave me one of the best “burgers” I’ve every had.

It never stood a chance

  1. […] You get the idea.  We thoroughly enjoyed eating our way through the city so much, I had to include a food gallery on the website.   It was a bit odd that so many people kept telling us to watch out for petty crime.  Honestly, […]
