Chile – Santiago

It made a lot of sense to stop for a few days in Santiago on the way from “up top” (Atacama) to “down near the bottom” (Patagonia).  We also needed a few days to relax after a busy few weeks touring and hiking every day.  We ended up really enjoying Santiago and walking miles every day because there was so much to see.

To me, Santiago felt a lot like my home city, Chicago.  It was clean.  It had great food.  It was very walkable.  It had tons are park space.  You get the idea.  We thoroughly enjoyed eating our way through the city so much, I had to include a food gallery on the website.   It was a bit odd that so many people kept telling us to watch out for petty crime.  Honestly, we felt 100% safe the entire time we were there.

One thing that stood out to me as we walked around every day was the amount of “romance” we saw in the parks throughout the city. It was noticeable because it was so plentiful!

Of all the “capital cities” we visited (five of them), this was probably our favorite. I didn’t snap a ton of pictures every day, but I did get a few that I really liked and they’re all in here.  You’ll see the wonderful ladies from Agua Fuente that made the most amazing sandwich I had in my entire trip to South America

When the zombie apocalypse comes, get you a cop car from Santiago. They are straight out of Walking Dead.

It was so strange to see so much Iron Maiden gear. I had one of their records in high school (35 years ago). I like Eddie as much as the next guy, but who did he get his own beer? There were multiple flavors in the supermarket.
