Emilia said I needed to get to an Estancia, so we had that “on the list” of experiences we wanted in Argentina. I couldn’t get the place I really wanted to visit to return my phone calls, texts, or emails. However, we did make it out for a day at an Estancia. We stopped at a small town on the way and got to see a cool performance after horseback riding and a ton of meat at lunch. The overall vibe definitely helped us understand why spending time at one is such a good idea. It’s a VERY different pace than the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires. The place I wanted texted me a day after we went to the other one. Go figure.
I will say that we really enjoyed the performers here. It was largely composed of family members and they genuinely enjoyed sharing the gaucho/ estancia lifestyle with us.
The other thing we decided to do was go see a tango show. As you’d expect, there was no shortage of street vendors pushing their shows. In the end, we kept it simple and went where the hotel sent us. The show was really good and I’m glad we got to experience it. That said, it was our tour guide in La Boca that explained the origins of tango and the initial disdain for it the upper class had. It’s hard to believe the history given how much it is celebrated and embraced now.
As someone who enjoys snapping live events, both of the shows in this gallery were really fun parts of the trip for me. Enjoy the photos.
The performance at the Estancia included a gaucho that had an amazing relationship with his horse.
