Hanoi & Halong Bay

Hanoi was out last stop and we were eager to see “the North” that we had heard so much about from the people in our previous two stops.  We actually started with a 3 day boat cruise in Halong Bay that was night, even though the weather didn’t exactly cooperate.  I totally see how people can come here and just get mesmerized.  It was a bit hazy most of the time and chillier than normal, but it was still really neat.  On the downside, unlike Uyuni and other places, they weren’t as protective of the environment.  It was FLOODED with boats and the trash in the bay was surprising.  They all know that the natural beauty is what pays the bills, right?

After the cruise, we had time to explore Hanoi a bit.  We didn’t spend enough time there, but we did do another street food tour.  We did walk around that day and also tried to visit the Peace and Love House.  Sadly, the bar was closed, but we did see the facility and totally get how you could get lost in there.

The best part of this was that Muun’s parents took us out t a FANTASTIC dinner in Hanoi.  It was so nice to meet them and get out of the Old Town to a different part of the city.  This was one of several times in our travels where the hospitality of our extended family was so awesome it’s hard to describe.
