Following up on my success in South America (esp Cusco), I decided to go out to a likely tourist spot to see if people would pose for a few photos. Patuxai (AKA “The Victory Monument”) felt like my best bet because who doesn’t want photos near Lao’s Arc de Triomphe?.
I had my OCF with me, but decided to just use natural light to make things easier. Once again, Google translate was my weapon of choice for the “ask”. I’m not sure what it said in Lao. People we looking at me like I was crazy. They still posed!
I decided to do a few more in Luang Prabang and had some good luck there despite losing the sun faster than I thought. Honestly, I had a great time meeting people while I was out in the heat of Lao in the evenings. I’m so glad I pushed myself to approach strangers! As I type this, I’m in Thailand and using the same approach to making new friends!
